Order of Engineers & Architects Competition

Zahlé, Lebanon

Status: Second Prize-Competition 2007

The architectural concept of this contemporary administrative building is inspired from the traditional architecture of the Bekaa valley. The site is located on an important axis at the entrance of Zahle, in complete view of the drivers passing by. Therefore, the architect chose to have a building that would act as a landmark without being imposing. The administrative building slowly reveals itself from afar through a second skin that is punctured in a random pattern, inspired by the niches found in the interiors of houses in the region. This double skin also provides shading and is in painted plaster in harmony with its environment and the strip of bungalows outlining the pool and the gardens.
